The David Diet - Target Audience

TARGET AUDIENCE

The David Diet is designed for adults who are overweight but not extremely obese. People who are extremely obese require the assistance of a medical professional to lose weight safely. See the section entitled "Target Weight" for a definition of the term "extremely obese."

You should get a physical examination from your medical doctor before starting the David Diet, including blood tests, in order to identify any problem areas. While vitamin supplements are not a part of the David Diet, ask your doctor if it may make sense to utilize a vitamin and mineral supplement. This diet is not for heavy smokers, alcoholics or those with serious health ailments, whether or not under the care of a physician. See the Terms and Conditions page for additional information. If at any time you feel ill effects from this diet, stop it immediately and contact your medical doctor.

WHY DIET?

According to press reports, obesity may soon pass smoking as the top death risk for Americans. US Government figures indicate 34% of adult Americans are overweight and 30% more are obese. There were an estimated 400,000 deaths in Year 2000 from poor diet and physical inactivity. CNN reported in mid-2002 that Altzheimers is less prevalent in India and Africa due to a low fat diet. In a separate study on cancer reported via CNN around the same time, weight reduction was shown to reduce undesirable cell division, the existence of excess body fat was shown to trap carcinogens in cells even when inhaled from the air (thereby causing tumors to grow) and exercising for one hour per day was shown to release toxins from the body. Another study indicated cancer deaths in women could be reduced by 20% via weight loss. And if that's not enough, the Federal Trade Commission reports Americans spend billions of dollars on false remedies each year.

ROOT CAUSES OF WEIGHT GAIN

Aside from heredity and lifestyle, depression and/or a feeling of loneliness are sometimes at least partially responsible for weight gain. Depression may be alleviated via positive action to achieve a specific goal when the tools are made available to do so. Loneliness may be reduced by coming together with others for a common purpose. The David Diet takes both depression and loneliness into consideration, by providing an effective long term solution to overweight status which may improve self image and provide enhanced opportunities for fresh relationships. The associated exercise and communication may bring individuals back in touch with their physical and mental selves, while prompting interaction with others, thereby removing the sense of isolation.
